Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Profile
The Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Alliance Uganda is a consortium of organizations that stand for and promote young people’s SRHR. The SRHR Alliance Uganda is comprised of organizations with strong niche, expertise, and experience in key aspects of SRHR programming for vulnerable and marginalized groups of adolescents and young people. Our work is geared towards ensuring that all young people have access to high-quality and friendly SRHR information and services within a supportive environment.
Meaningful and Inclusive Youth Participation is one of the core principles and values of the SRHR Alliance Uganda. We promote and support equal participation of young people in decision-making regarding the design, implementation, and monitoring of all our interventions.
It is against this background that the SRHR Alliance Uganda would like to recruit a Youth Country Coordinator (YCC) to provide leadership to the young people, ensuring that they are at the forefront of our work and operations.
Job Summary:
The primary role of the Youth Coordinator is to promote efficient and effective meaningful youth engagement and participation in Alliance programs in general. The YCC position is intended to achieve the following objectives;
- To encourage active and meaningful youth participation in all aspects of the programs of
SRHR Alliance and its partners.
- To ensure ongoing updates on the program for the youth staff/volunteers as well as country alliance members on issues related to effective youth participation
- To ensure timely preparation of youth input in Alliance meetings and reports, and ensure that documentation meets meaningful youth participation standards and the donor requirements for approval and progression of the initiative.
- To support the Programs Manager in the preparation of program-related publications to promote awareness and lesson-learning on youth participation
- To advise the Secretariat and the SRHR Alliance Members on how to effectively implement meaningful youth participation at all stages of the program cycle and implement the program.
- Together with country alliance members provide technical support and guidance to young staff/volunteers in the partner organizations to be able to participate effectively in the alliance programs.
- To ensure effective partnerships with relevant youth-led and youth-serving organizations in the country program.
- To keep updated on relevant changing trends in the field of youth sexual and reproductive health and rights and share amongst the country alliance partners.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- To coordinate and facilitate the content development and logistics for capacity-building meetings and consultations planned for young people and partner organizations in the alliance around
- Provide partner organizations with full information on youth participation initiatives within the alliance programs and solicit their proactive support in engaging young staff/volunteers.
- To ensure and encourage meaningful youth engagement and participation of young people within the Alliance and its partners
- To analyze materials and prepare summaries of articles on meaningful youth participation, for dissemination among the alliance members, both adults, and young staff/volunteers
- To support Programs Manager to develop and incorporate the policy on the protection of young people in all program activities
- To keep the Programs Manager and partner organizations informed of progress, developments, and changing trends of youth participation in the Alliance.
- To participate in internal meetings, workshops, and working groups as agreed with the
NPC.
- To support in planning, monitoring, evaluation, learning activities, and operational research. To undertake any other reasonable duties as may be requested from time to time.
Minimum Qualifications
- The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in one of the following or related fields: Social Sciences and development studies, Public Health, Population studies, Reproductive Health from a Recognized University or Tertiary institution.
- At least one year experience of working in the field of Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights.
- Experience of working as a youth leader is a MUST.
- Project management skills; ability to plan activities, develop concept notes and budgets, report
- writing skills, M&E, research, and analytical skills
- Administrative and organizational skills; good level of computer literacy; fluent English s
- Interpersonal skills – articulate, tactful, and diplomatic.
- Written communication skills; preferably in English
- Organizational and time management skills to meet tight deadlines; ability to work well under
- pressure and with little to minimal supervision.
- Budgeting and financial skills.
- Fluent English essential;
- IT skills – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Flexible/team player
Terms of Employment:
- The position will be full-time
- Duration of appointment is one year with a possibility of extension for another two years
- contingent upon performance and availability of funds.
- The position is based in Kampala with regular up country and international travels
Key Eligibility Criteria:
- The applicant MUST be a young person aged 20-25 years
- Experience in working in SRHR/ HIV and or related fields
- Vast experience in youth mentorship and leadership
- Young people living with HIV and Young living with disability particularly 25 years and
- below are encouraged to apply.

- Open-minded to ideas and people; willing to listen, learn and unlearn
- Willing and able to travel within the country;
- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
- Able to work on own initiative; flexibility and ability to work in a team and a good sense of humor.
