Roles and responsibilities:
Principal Accountabilities:
- Ensuring that all white products coming into the depots are tested, meet regional and internal standards for fuel quality, and re-certified to the loading Certificate of Analysis.
- Ensuring that all products from selling tanks are tested daily and re-certified to be ‘fit-for-purpose’ as per product grade/batch.
- Ensuring that weekly samples of product from each remote depot are received in the laboratory and re-certified, to ensure they meet required standards.
- Carry out quality tests and advise the outcome to the Quality and Depot Managers and the respective depots, in instances where trucks are held up for suspicion of carrying the adulterated products.
- Resolve, in a timely manner, complaints from customers and depots regarding product quality through chemical analysis.
- Ensures product referencing and traceability along the supply & distribution stream from the loading points to Shell retail/commercial sites in PQA Surveys.
- Advise the depot operations teams with product blend ratios for non-conforming specifications on product quality.
- Be a resource in staff and contractor product knowledge training.
- Custodian of certified reference fuel measurement instruments in the depots.
- Validate and Verify depot thermometers, and hydrometers as per the frequency, to ensure accurate and precise measurements.
- Ensure reference hydrometers and thermometers are calibrated annually.
- Liaise with UNBS Laboratory staff to follow up on matters regarding testing of quality and fuel marker concentration on monthly FMQC program reports.
- Liaise with external laboratories to provide third-party testing for tests not done within the Kampala laboratory.
- Carry out regular stock takes of Laboratory consumables to ensure the effective operation of the laboratory.
- Ensures the laboratory is clean and safe to work at all times.
- Carry out any other duties related to product quality projects or implementation of the QMS 9001:2015 as will be assigned from time to time by the supervisors.
Key Challenges:
- The role requires a character with high level of confidentiality and integrity owing to the lucrative illicit practices involved.
- The role requires working for extended hours, as well as a high level of self-management practices.
- The role requires a high degree of flexibility especially when required to attend to and resolve any customer product quality related incidents in the field.
Qualifications
- A B.Sc. degree, preferably, in Industrial Chemistry/Chemistry/Chemical Technology or a related field.
- Good knowledge of international and national petroleum quality standards.
- Satisfactory awareness of Health, Safety, Security, and Environment issues
- Minimum of two (2) years of Experience in product quality assurance & control in a related environment, or product assurance laboratory.
- Satisfactory awareness of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, ISO 14001:2015 & ISO/IEC 17025:2017 international standards.
- The ability to drive a manual car is an added advantage.
