Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) Profile:
The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) is a semi-autonomous body established by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics Act, 1998, to promote the production of reliable official statistics and ensure the development and maintenance of the National Statistical System (NSS). The mandate of the Bureau is the production, coordination and dissemination of official statistics.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Carry out digitizing of administrative unit boundaries and socio-economic facilities data collected from the field
- Undertake to update of maps in the field
- Prepare final copies of updated maps
- Demarcate enumeration areas according to field mapping procedures
- Carry out editing and quality checks of spatial data sets as required
- Compile and create final enumeration area maps to guide field data collection
- Develop thematic maps to support dissemination of information
- Support the development of Geodatabase base
- Take care of UBOS equipment’s and materials under team’s custody
- Carry out any other duties as required by the supervisor
Minimum Qualifications:
- Diploma in Cartography
- Certificate in GIS Applications (e.g. ArcGIS) will be an added advantage
- Should have passed Maths & English at 0′ Level.
Experience:
- Experience in field mapping with a reputable organization will be an added advantage
- Desktop, Building Geo-databases, GIS Fundamentals, Advanced GIS, Mobile Mapping, etc.)
- Working knowledge and experience in mapping application especially ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, Mobile mapping, geodatabase base management will be an added advantage
- Capable of working for long hours at desk station with minimum supervision.
- Applicants should state the local language they speak fluently
