Job Summary:
The Challenge Fund for Youth Employment (CFYE) https://fundforyouthemployment.nl/, initiated by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), aims to create new jobs and make jobs more accessible for 200.000 youth (half of these for women) in the ministry’s priority focus countries in the Middle East, North Africa, Sahel & West Africa and the Horn of Africa. The fund is open to Private sector and (I)NGO applications (or mixed consortia). VSO will strengthen the work of the selected Implementing Partners through strategic VSO volunteer engagements.
The aim of the Fund will be achieved by supporting youth employment initiatives in these regions. Initiatives will offer youth, particularly young women, opportunities for decent work that delivers better prospects for personal development, is productive, and offers a stable income, social protection and safe working conditions.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Working from home and at project location – In this role, you will spend some time providing part-time remote support (e.g. from your home) to VSO projects or partners, and also a set period working full-time in the project location and/or VSO office.
Youth Expert to lead on coordinating the Youth Champions network in Uganda. Responsibilities include day to day welfare support for Youth Champions, leading on the design and delivery of youth activities within the network including youth action research, youth design sprints, hackathons, youth forums, youth events as well as training and capacity building sessions for the youth champions, using a youth centered approach. The Youth Champions will have a set of activities (final activities still being confirmed) to work on throughout the year, ensuring youth voice is integrated into the Challenge Fund for Youth Employment Programme.
The assignment is part of the wider youth champions initiative, a collaboration between CFYE and a global network of youth leaders. CFYE are working with youth leaders from CFYE target countries to lead the way as an innovator in the direct inclusion of youth voice in a Challenge Fund’s program design, implementation and monitoring and evaluation.
Minimum Qualifications
To be eligible to apply for the role, you should be:
- A young person between the age of 18 and 35 years old;
- Living in Uganda;
- Good English skills to be able to converse with other international young people, the CFYE team and implementing partners;
- Available to commit to a full-time role (4.5 days per week) for 12 months;
- Available to start the role in April 18, 2022
- Willing to work both remotely (online) and face to face (in person workshops)

Allowance
As a VSO volunteer, you will be sharing your skills with local communities on a full time basis. VSO will cover your travel, vaccinations, accommodation, and medical insurance costs, along with a local living allowance which will be paid in local currency. This allowance meets reasonable living expenses in country, but will not be enough to send money home. You will also receive some financial support to contribute to your on-going expenses at home.
Accommodation
VSO works with some of the poorest communities in the world which means accommodation varies and will be basic.
