About the Program
Government of Uganda (MWE), with funding from the World Bank, is implementing Integrated Water Management and Development Project which provides support to catchment management and activities in sub-catchments of Lwakhakha (Mpologoma catchment), Lake Okolitorom and Apeduru Apapai (Awoja catchment), Kochi (Albert Nile catchment), and Aswa II (Aswa catchment). The project supports the implementation of catchment management measures, including soil and water conservation, eco-system protection and restoration; livelihood improvement for the affected communities and supporting stakeholder engagement and the establishment of micro catchment structures for sustainable management of the interventions.
Aidenvironment has been contracted by Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE-Directorate of Water Resources Management) to facilitate communities to implement the restoration interventions within the Lwakhakha sub-catchment that covers majorly Manafwa, Namisindwa, Bududa and Tororo Districts. It is on this basis that Aidenvironment seeks to recruit a community development Expert to take lead in Identification, mobilization and engagement of all the relevant stakeholders in the project implementation
Job Summary:
Aidenvironment seeks to recruit a community development expert for the implementation of project activities under the supporting communities to implement priority catchment measures in Lwakhakha sub-catchment project in Eastern Uganda. The expert shall ensure that activities are implemented based on the Aidenvironment standards. The Expert will play a key role in linking the project team and the community members, work hand in hand with the local government officials, take part in implementation of project activities, mobilization of community members and supervision of project activities.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Mobilization and engagement of all project stakeholders for meetings and workshops
- Implementation of project activities and support to community members in the implementation of community action plans
- Mobilization and sensitization of communities during project implementation.
- Liaison between the local government and the project team.
- Regular reporting on project implementation progress and participation in project monitoring activities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the project manager.
Minimum Qualifications
- Relevant working experience of 2 to 3 years in a related field, experience in natural resources management will be an added advantage
- Minimum of a university degree (Bachelor level) in the fields of: social sciences, social works and administration, development studies, community psychology or a related field.
- Experience in conducting community mobilization, awareness creation and training
- Understanding of catchment management guidelines is desirable
- Ability to represent the project and aidenvironment well to local leaders and other stakeholders
- Good communication skills, both written and oral
- Ability to work well within a team
- Knowledge of Microsoft programs (word, excel, MS Outlook) and the use of the internet.
- Ability to ride a motorcycle
- Prior work experience in Manafwa, Tororo or Namisindwa Districts will be an added advantage and Proficiency in the local dialect is a MUST.
