Reach Out Mbuya Community Health Initiative formerly known as Reach Out Mbuya Parish HIV/AIDS Initiative (ROM) is a community-based non-governmental organization working with the urban and rural poor communities currently in 6 districts and ready to expand further. ROM provides a unique model of care to People Living with HIV and where necessary their families; taking care of the medical, social, emotional, and economical aspects of their lives to foster dignified living.
The program initiated in May 2001 at Our Lady of Africa Mbuya Catholic Parish to address the AIDS scourge in the slum communities of the Parish has since experienced rapid growth scaling up further beyond the parish jurisdiction. Starting with 14 HIV+ clients in 2001, currently ≥7000 are served annually.
Job Summary:
The Social Worker will lead the day-to-day implementation of the field OVC activities in liaison with the Division community-based services department (SBSD), health facilities and community structures. He/She will ensure that the ICYD activity intended beneficiaries are identified, assessed and enrolled. He/she will ensure that the intended OVC services in the community are delivered in line with MGLSD and PEPFAR guidelines.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for overall supervision, Coaching and Mentoring of Para-social Workers (PSWs) for effective OVC household identification/assessment and enrollment into USAID ICYD activity and development of Household Improvement and individual care plans as well as tracking their progress.
- Organize case Conferencing with the Division Community Development Officers, as well as mobilizing, coordinating monthly meetings with Parasocial Workers; producing timely and informative project activity reports.
- Build strong systems to ensure effective referral and linkages for OVCs to community support structures and to health facilities that ROM will be working with.
- Ensure high-quality reporting of OVC activities through set national information management systems and funder databases.
- Promote access and utilization of child protection services among vulnerable children, youths and their household members.
- Train Para social workers (PSWs) in case management and Support all OVC case management activities and beneficiary assessments to track progress towards graduation. Document and report family and child success stories based on program intervention.
- Support PSWs to Conduct monthly home visits to enrolled OVC households and carry out monthly data collection, quality checks and reporting on OVC activities plus ensuring files are well maintained
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Division Coordinator and Case management Officer.
- Periodically do household reassessment to identify households ready for graduation and also to help do household improvement and individual care plans.
- Support and observe the safeguarding culture of ROM, regularly documenting and reporting identified and potential safeguarding issues; Ensuring health, safety, and security in your area of operation, as you promote the vision, mission and the values of Reach Out Mbuya.
Minimum Qualifications
- The ideal candidates for this position should preferably hold Bachelor’s degrees in Social Work & Social Administration (SWASA), Social sciences, Education, Community Psychology or Public Health or any related
qualification. - A minimum of three years’ work experience in a field position with an organization in public health or OVC programming.
- S/he should have computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrable good communication and community mobilization skills.
