Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) Profile:
Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) is an agency of Government responsible for maintenance, coordination, supervising and monitoring of the National Statistical System (NSS) to ensure the collection, analysis and dissemination of standardised statistical information. The Bureau is also mandated as the principal official statistics producing agency in the country.
Job Summary:
Responsible for the production of regular statistical indicators in the fields of economic and social statistics in line with the Uganda Bureau of Statistics mandate.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Compile economic and social statistical indicators based on the internationally recommended principles and practices.
- Profile statistical data required for having real, fiscal, monetary and external sector statistics complete, identify sources and recommend robust method of addressing the inadequacies.
- Compile the Supply and Use Tables, rebase National Accounts and develop working files.
- Develop tools and guidelines for compilation of socioeconomic indicators from administrative records and non-traditional sources.
- Participate in data analysis, report writing and dissemination of economic and social statistics.
- Produce monthly and quarterly statistical reports.
- Any other duties as may be assigned by the Senior Statistician.
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least an Honors Degree in Bachelor of Statistics, Bachelors in Population Studies, BSc. Economics with Statistics, BSc. Quantitative Economics, BSc Mathematics and Economics, Mathematics with Education or Business Statistics;
- A Master’s Degree in any of the above discipline is an added advantage;
- Working knowledge of MS Office and Statistical packages.
Experience:
- Either a minimum of 2 years working experience in statistical or mathematics related work.
- Detailed knowledge of statistical data and information sources within the public and private domain.
Other Requirements:
- Analytical, writing and data management skills;
- Excellent inter-personal relations and communication skills;
- Working knowledge of computer applications and statistical packages;
- High team building and decision-making skills;
- An appreciation of quality assurance will be of added advantage;
- Capacity to coordinate, mobilize and develop partnerships;
- High ethics, integrity and practice of professionalism;
- Ability to lead and motivate a professional team in your jurisdiction to focus on results-oriented performance;
- Should have obtained credit in Mathematics and English at O’ Level;
- Membership to the Uganda Statistical Society is a must.
