Job Profile
The Laboratory Technician focuses on testing, monitoring and maintaining the quality assurance for all products and quality systems in place and reporting to the Plant Chemist. This team supports internal and external customers though New Product Development (NPD), innovative customer solutions and customer support. This position ensures product quality through effective and responsible execution of the quality control policies and procedures and establishes and maintains quality procedures meeting quality Standards.
Roles and Responsibilities:
● Accurately documents results/observations and maintains paperwork and/or computer databases.
● Ensures that the H&S and housekeeping standards are maintained
● Samples all in process materials on the production line and finished products.
● Performs sample preparation, physical testing, and other analysis as per applicable standards
● Monitors and communicates quality concerns affecting product quality.
● Carries out tests on samples, interprets and takes corrective action to ensure compliance to specifications
● Carries out primary tests and mechanical tests on cement specimens presented to him/her.
● Ensures that all consumables for use in both physical and Chemical Lab are always available.
● Monitors the sample store and sorts out unwanted samples regularly.
● Monitors and controls the curing tanks water levels.
● Prepares reports, and other technical literature
● Runs lab quality technical standards to cross-check the equipment accuracy using secondary reference standards in order to ensure accuracy and integrity
● Measures and records the humidity, temperature of the curing room tanks and cabinet where physical analysis is done on a daily basis.
● Ensures that all testing equipment is properly maintained.
● Monitors the equipment room temperature and reports any anomalies
● Supports Control Room Operators in troubleshooting root causes of deviations while on Shift.
● Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas. Promotes a positive safety culture through leading by example
● Works in the field – as needed
Minimum Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Minimum of a Diploma in Chemistry, Laboratory Science Technology (Chemical/ Physical)
Civil Engineering or a related science is preferred
Knowledge in concrete and cement testing procedures is an added advantage.
Minimum 1 year of experience in the construction building materials or a related industry.
Background in concrete construction is preferred.
Minimum 1 year of laboratory experience.
Knowledge in quality control and assurance.
Knowledge of databases, MS Word, MS Excel, statistical analysis software, and other
computer tools experience required.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team or independently are
strongly required.
