The IRC is currently working in over 40 countries around the world, addressing both the immediate and lifesaving needs of conflict affected people in emergencies and the reconstruction needs of post-conflict societies.
The IRC began programming in northern Uganda in 1998 in response to mass displacement and devastation wrought by rebel group, the Lord’s Resistance Army. In 2002, the IRC expanded to the remote, conflict-affected region of Karamoja and in 2011, began working with refugees in Kampala. Monitoring the influx of South Sudanese refugees at the end of 2015, the IRC began scaling up its response to refugees arriving in the West Nile region. By promoting durable solutions that deliver on the interdependent aims of saving lives, strengthening institutions, and supporting social cohesion, the IRC in Uganda is laying the building blocks for long-term stability and development –bringing people from harm to home. The IRC currently works in 9 districts in Uganda, including Kitgum, Lamwo, Kyegegwa, Moroto, Amudat, Yumbe, Arua, Kasese and Kampala. The IRC will be moving into additional/new locations in refugee settlements in Kiryandongo.
The IRC is currently implementing its health and nutrition program in West Nile and Acholi focusing on providing primary health care services to refugees in their settlements. Similar services will be extended to the new locations starting January 2020.
Job Profile
Under the supervision of the Health Manager, the Pharmacy Technician will provide medication and other health care products to facilities. S/he will perform routine tasks to help prepare prescribed medication for patients; and supports pharmacological services by stocking, assembling, and distributing medications. She/he will supervise and provide oversight over the dispensers and continuously provide capacity building to the dispensers in health commodity management.
Roles and Responsibilities:
•Ensure compliance with IRC policies and standard operating procedures regarding ordering, receiving, storage and issuing of medicines from the pharma warehouse.
•Ensure good storage and distribution practices at both the pharma warehouse and health facilities.
•Maintain an up-to-date electronic Logistics Management Information system (elms) such as RX solution.
•Ensure timely web-based ordering of ARVs, ART commodities, Anti TB medicines and FP planning commodities in the DHIS2.
•Undertake close monitoring of medicines and supplies stock levels in the pharma warehouse to always ensure appropriate stock levels.
•Monitor stock arrangements as per FEFO method and issue medicines and supplies to health facilities accordingly.
•Conduct monthly physical verification and inspection of all pharmaceuticals and medical equipment and devices received at the main warehouse.
•Prepare and ensure timely submission of stock status reports and ensuring accurate forecasting and quantification of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies.
•Generate monthly reports for short-dated commodities, understocked and excess stocked commodities and share with the health facilities.
•Produce timely monthly stock-outs reports and share the reports with health facilities including recommendations for alternative available medicines.
•Generate and submit accurate and timely monthly medicines and supplies consumption reports.
•Ensure tracking and accountability for all medical and pharmaceutical products as well as related supplies used by the health facilities.
•And any other rolls as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
•Must have a Diploma in Pharmacy from recognized institution.
•Active Registration with the Allied Medical Practitioners Council with proof of practicing license.
•At least 2 years of experience in an NGO setting.
•Excellent written and verbal communication or interpersonal skills is a must.
•Proficiency in Computer Microsoft office applications; Word, Excel, and Power point.
•Excellent analytical skills.
•High level of integrity.
